I'm the only non-Apple user in my family. But when I see one of the Fletchers glance at their Apple watch and then jump up, even I know what happened. Their watch told them they've been sitting too long. It reminded them to get up and move. That's a good reminder we all need. Today, I want to focus on a reminder of scripture.
Many Christians look to the book of Revelation to outline an ensuing end of the world. But the vision is not a cosmic calendar, but a book of worship for those who commit to the way of the Lamb. It doesn't predict doom. It declares God's glory.
In Chapter 4, there are twenty four elders who sit on twenty four thrones. Their white robes help us envision the church washed in grace. And they are wearing golden crowns. These aren't symbols of personal achievement. They are, presumably, gifts from the one seated on the throne surrounded by the other twenty four. In this scene are also "four living creatures" who, from time to time, apparently, break out in praise. They "give glory and honor and thanks to the one who is seated on the throne." When they do, the elders respond in three ways.
First, they "fall before the one who is seated on the throne." As they do, they "cast their crowns before the throne" and then break into a song of praise of their own. This happens every time the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks. For our reflection today, I'm going to call those praise reminders.

Praise reminders are helpful. They may come in the form of a testimony you hear or a time spent in prayer with another Christian. Your reminder might be on a Sunday morning or a Tuesday-night drive home from work. Look for those reminders. Thank God for them. And whenever you hear a praise reminder, however you can, fall before God, giving back to the Lord and worship.
Stay blessed...john |
