Full of Years

I hope not to spoil the show for you. But there's a scene in the final episode of The Buroughs that really touched me. There's a moment when someone asks what most of us would if we had the chance to see someone we've lost. Instead of being in the moment, the character asks, "How much time do we have before this ends?"

The response was something like: "Just shut up and enjoy it."

It sounds funny at first, but what great wisdom there is in those words. Stop counting and measuring. Stop worrying about how long the moment will last. And just be present and live.

Genesis tells us that Abraham died "old and full of years." That phrase made me think of that final scene. Abraham's life was not easy. He experienced uncertainty, failure, waiting, disappointment, family conflict, and grief. He wandered far more than he ever settled. But his story ends as "full of years."

That means something more than the number of candles on a cake. It means a life filled with trust, adventure, and love. Abraham knew laughter, tears, and encounters with God. Maybe it means that Abraham learned what his descendants, and we, still struggle to learn sometimes that life is a gift, not a possession.

In many ways, we spend so much time asking, "How much time do I have?" God's invitation is to consider what you will do with the time you have been given.

None of us knows how many days we have. But we can choose to live them fully. What does that mean? It means loving deeply, forgiving freely, serving generously, and walking faithfully with God.

Abraham was remembered for living faithfully. His years were not merely long; they were full.

So let that be today's reminder: Stop worrying so much about how much time is left. Trust the God who gives you every breath. Be present to the people in front of you. Receive this day as the gift it is.

Stay blessed...john
