A few years ago, it hit me.
I was asked to lead a small-group discussion on digital ministry. It was fun for me to help the group imagine ways they could connect to their churches and communities beyond Sunday morning. After we were done, someone said to me, "I like the way you do your digital ministry."
That surprised me because, even with all the digital work I do, I had never thought of myself as having a digital ministry--yes, I can be dense sometimes.
In every church I’ve previously served, the congregation was able to support the digital ministry work I do as part of the broader ministry of the church. That meant I could freely offer daily devotional texts, emails, podcasts, teaching, and online resources without really thinking about the monthly costs behind them.
Now, I've never wanted to sound like a radio fundraiser or a TV preacher trying to sell faith. But this new season is different.
Every day, I send devotional text messages, write and record daily devotionals, maintain podcast platforms, and help create online spaces for encouragement, prayer, and spiritual formation. Those things rely on subscriptions, software, hosting services, and tools that carry ongoing monthly costs. At this point, I simply can’t sustain those expenses personally.
So, after a lot of prayer and hesitation, I decided to create a Patreon page to hopefully help sustain the work that is already offered freely.
If these daily reflections, podcasts, prayers, or messages have encouraged you, challenged you, or helped you stay grounded in faith, I’d be grateful if you would consider supporting the work. And if you can’t, that’s completely okay too. I’m just thankful we’ve been able to connect like this for so long.
More than anything, I hope this space continues to be a witness to God’s grace, hope, justice, healing, and the presence in everyday life.
Stay blessed...john
